"
Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western Spiral Arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun.
Orbiting this at a distance of roughly ninety-two million miles is an utterly insignificant little blue-green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea.
This planet has - or rather had - a problem, which was this: most of the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy.
And so the problem remained; lots of people were mean, and most of them were miserable, even the ones with digital watches" -Douglas Adams

Ride of your life
I bet you can imagine someone standing in front of a roller coaster wondering if he should jump on or not. When someone does it for the first time he or she often feels some kind of fear. Even though she knows that nothing bad will happen, roller coasters are safe. Everyone knows that. But there's still the decision to make; whether to take the ride or not. Some people decide not to do it, because they can see the fear in the people riding it. They can hear their screams. If we see frightened people, we usually get frightened. The funny thing is that then it's not our fears we feel, it's other's.
But if you decide to take the ride you'll probably be afraid to some extent, you'll maybe even scream and frighten other people standing in line for the ride. But you will enjoy it. And at the same time you would like to be somewhere else, somewhere safe. Even though you still know that anything bad won't happen.
But what happens after the ride? Well, you don't see any frightened faces, you can't hear anyone saying that they shouldn't have taken the ride. You just think that it was the greatest ride ever, and you don't regret it at all. The interesting thing is when you think about the ride afterwards you'll obviously think about the scariest parts of it. Those where the parts where you were most frightened, now afterwards you see them as the most enjoyable parts of the ride. You'll probably even think that you want to do it again, and later on find yourself standing in the line, a bit afraid of course. Even though you've been on the ride before you only see the frightened faces of people in the cars, screaming. You can't see the happy ones who have taken the ride, even though they probably stand right next to you.
So next time when you're facing a decision think about this. Try to see the ones who have taken the ride, ignore the frightened faces, see the happy faces. If you won't take the ride you'll probably regret it, and the chance to ride that specific roller coaster won't probably come again that soon. So jump on and enjoy!
