It's a real winter here in Finland. It's snowing, a lot. So much that people panic and our whole infrastructure has problems because of the snow. This got me thinking.

We, the human race, have super egos. We think that we're in control of everything, that no-one or nothing can stop us. We think that we rule this planet, we've built it and we'll destroy it. We control EVERYTHING. But then...

Snowfall for two days, and what happens? Whole humanity is helpless. There's nothing one can do, except to wait for better weather. It really made me laugh when I walked to school and saw all the people panicing. Here we go thinking that we can take care of things and in reality we're nothing. Nature is strong. Humans to nature are just like ants to humans. They can be crushed any given day. For instance; by snow.

When nature is fed up with our shit it will simply wipe us from the face of the earth. The polar caps will melt and the flood will destroy everything. All humans will die. What happens then? Well, after a few million years, from nature's point of view, everything will be alright, there's nothing for nature to worry about; our nature will reach equilibrium in time; the waters will evaporate or something, and flowers will start to bloom. Just like after the ice ages and things like that. Humans die and no-one cares. No-one. That shows how egoistic we are. We only see ourselves as something special, something that keeps this planet alive, even though it's probably the opposite. But what's there to worry about? We're probably just part of the big plan.

So maybe we should think a bit, and start understanding that we're just a small part of this existence. A few building blocks. And here we go on thinking what marvellous things we're capable of. Just because we came up with some electronics that a 1 hour wind can wipe away any day. I'm not saying that we should consider ourselves unworthy, and that we should look down on ourselves. Because you know I think just the opposite. But that's on the personal level, on the human-level. This is on a higher level. So next time you think about how mighty the human race is, just think that a small storm or earthquake could destroy anything. Nature can do it, without any effort. So maybe a winter like this makes people think a little bit, even though this is nothing worth talking about! Let the snow fall, if it makes people think a bit!

So how can we think th

  1. True true. It´s awful to witness everyday how people think we own this planet. It´s simply borrowed, and what´s borrowed should be given back in the same condition as recieved. We should see it as a privilege to live here, and treat the earth like that, and share it with others who live here. I think (or hope) someday mother nature WILL take back what belongs to her, and then people may then realize how happy we should be to live on such a beautiful place.
