"All I can do is be me, whoever that is..."
-Bob Dylan
That's something I've scrabbled down in my own little book that's filled with quotes that are really important to me. What do you think? Can you really be someone except yourself? It is easy to be blinded by quotes; they seem smart. It seems to be really hip to quote people nowadays. Mostly people quote Paulo Coelho, or some other well-known authors, lyricists, poets or philosophers. But do people really think further than the poetic and clear messages? It's hard to say. You hear people quote others all the time.
This particular Bob Dylan quote was something I really reacted on when I opened my little book. Isn't it quite the quote? "All you can be is yourself" really shows that you don't care about other people's opinions, you stand up for your rights, you believe in yourself. From this minute onward you're not going to be affected by others, you're walking your own path... But think about it! If you think a bit further the quote implies that you have to strive to be yourself, you have to know that you're yourself. Well, if you didn't know you are yourself before, is it being yourself if you start "being yourself" because of this quote? It's a real dilemma.
I don't think one has to be himself. I think anyone can be whoever they want, as long as they're not doing it for other people than for themselves. Why should you limit your life to something you see as yourself? I think it's ridiculous. That's killing yourself to live. So don't try to be yourself, if you do that, you're probably so far away from yourself you can be. Don't try. Just be whoever you feel like being, Lay back and enjoy the ride, because you know it's going to end any day. You haven't got time to pretend to be yourself.
